FinanceSay: key correspondence of 9 Sep 10
Text of an email from Damien Ryan-Green to DHS Barwon South West Region
Hi Matthew, Angela
Thank you for our session in Geelong yesterday "Orientation to FinanceSay". For a quick recap, click on the links in the following sentence:
"FinanceSay is a simple bar chart containing 3 dollar figures: your greenfield, core and worked roster costings. Click on any of these 3 bars to drill down to all the available information that went into calculating that dollar figure"
***
We note that the evidence that sits behind the $ figures in each bar (above) arises from a range of sources; from anecdotal information from line managers (which was logged along with the $ figures in our Hume DAS exercise, for example) through to payroll reports and multiple other sources.
***
Finally, we welcome Claude Staub (who engaged us via his previous role as a rostering and budget manager with St John of God Accord to carry out the above process, and liked it so much he quit SJOGA and joined forces with us) as the new product manager for this product.
Kind regards
Damien
Cross references to other projects:
- Helen, Mark: FinanceSay is, of course, the latest upgrade of the "w-curve" tool I've been running by you for the last number of years. It has captured the corporate memory of perhaps 20 to 30 past projects across DHS and CSOs (including your SSA projects Helen, and the greenfield rostering we did for child protection etc. for you Mark) stretching back to the 1998/99 unit cost project I worked on with Bob Johnson and Maren Lorentzen, a by-product of which is the current methodology behind the RosterCoster tool.
- Sabine, Bruno, Mick: for information only; this product is independent of software tools. For example, we are rolling it out to orgs that have their own costing tools, and don't need ours. In this scenario, costings are nevertheless asserted with confidence, it's just that the stated assumptions upon which the figures are based are different.
- Paul: under the FinanceSay link, see *Acknowledgement: the terms WeSay and FinanceSay were coined in sessions with Paul Morganti, who was the project manager back in the early 2000s who oversaw the original rollout of EMSOnline (the DHS version of Gateway) within DHS.
- Liza: just to follow on from our past chats about perhaps someday recapping the benchmark rosters, costing parameters and costings that John Duck, Adele, Glenys. Kylie and I did for Hume specifically, before your time, you might find the greenfield and core links the most useful, as a benchmark. You will see a link called Hume DAS in there.
